The McDonalds Ballarat FNL is pleased to announce the week 1 match schedule for the McDonald’s BFNL Junior Finals Series.

Matches will kick off with the Qualifying Finals at the Eastern Oval on Saturday 23rd of August, followed by Elimination Finals at Marty Busch Recreation Reserve on Sunday the 24th of August.

Once again, the league thanks the City of Ballarat for their support in hosting finals at the premier football and netball venues across the region, and country Victoria.

The McDonald’s Ballarat FNL is excited to announce the release of the 2025 Junior Fixtures for the upcoming season.

The 2025 season will feature a 16-round competition, kicking off with the North Ballarat and East Point dual gate clash on Saturday, 12th of April, as part of the Clubs’ annual Pink Round.

All other Clubs will begin their season on Sunday, 13th of April, with Wellness Round, dedicated to raising awareness for a cause chosen by each Club.

This year’s fixture has been structured into multiple components to accommodate our competitions.

The first fixture release is the BFNL Standard Junior Fixture, which will include the following competitions:
• Football – U10 Seniors, U12 Reserves
• Netball – U11 Reserves and Seniors, U13 Reserves and Seniors and U15 Reserves

The Alternate Fixture is in place for the following competitions:
• Football – U10 Reserves, U12 Seniors, U14 Reserves and Seniors
• Netball – U15 Seniors, U17 Reserves and Seniors

Finally, the Under 16 Reserves and Seniors football will have individualised fixtures for each competition.

There’s plenty to look forward to throughout the 2025 season.

The popular Western Bulldogs Under 8 and Under 9 Netball competitions will again take place on Friday nights, with season details to be released in the coming weeks.

The BFNL junior interleague sides hit the road to Bendigo on July 5th, continuing the tradition for the Goldfields Trophy.

The Under 17 Boys will play a curtain raiser to the Under 23 Men against Hampden FNL on home soil
for the Clinton Baulch Cup.

Meanwhile, our BFNL Netballers will compete in the annual Association Championships in Warrnambool on Sunday 1st of June.

Indigenous Round will take place in line with AFL during Rounds 5 & 6, with Ronald McDonald Charity House Round set to round out the themed rounds on Sunday 3rd of August.

The BFNL looks forward to another enjoyable year for all Clubs, players, volunteers and families throughout 2025.

Tracy’s coaching resume includes a notable achievement as the Head Coach for the Under 17 team that finished as runners-up in the prestigious State Titles, a testament to her ability to guide teams to success in high-pressure competitions. Currently, she serves as the Head Coach for the Victorian Netball League 23 squad at Warriors, where she continues to inspire and mentor players while implementing innovative coaching strategies to enhance performance and team cohesion. Her passion for community netball shines through her role as the A and B Grade Coach for Joey's, where she nurtures talent and builds strong, dynamic teams.

Tracy’s coaching philosophy is around athletes’ growth, resilience, and a deep love for the game. She is deeply committed to each player’s holistic development, recognising that coaching extends beyond skill-building to fostering character, resilience, and discipline. Another action-packed weekend of football and netball awaits as the Carlton Draught Senior Finals Series continues to heat up.

On the football field, six clubs remain in contention, all vying to secure their place in the Grand Final against Darley (Seniors), Sunbury (Reserves) and East Point (Under 18.5).

Meanwhile, on the netball court, Darley continues its dominant run with five of its six teams competing for a Grand Final berth.

Wins this weekend will see most winners line up against Sunbury (A, B, D and E Grades), while the Under 19s clash sets up a battle with North Ballarat, and the C Grade winner will meet Lake Wendouree.

The McDonalds Ballarat Football Netball League Board is pleased to announce the final fixture for the upcoming 2025 McDonalds Ballarat FNL Senior season

This season hopes to build on momentum from 2024, with a full fixture of 18 rounds plus finals in store.

The fixture looks a little different for 2025.

With Melton South moving to the RDFNL, all clubs will face each other twice, guaranteeing a season filled with competitive football and netball.

We look forward to seeing some impressive matches across the season both on the field and court.

Round 1 kicks off on Saturday 5th of April 2025. Ballarat will host North Ballarat in the first “Night Match” of the season.

Good Friday football returns to the fixture in 2025, with Bacchus Marsh hosting East Point and Sunbury hosting Redan, followed by the second year running of Lake Wendouree v Ballarat on Anzac Day under lights.

We have some important rounds across the season.

Please take note of these dates, further information will be provided as we near each round.

The stage is set for a grand final showdown between Darley and North Ballarat, with both sides arriving at the biggest game of the season having shown plenty of firepower and composure throughout their finals campaigns.

Darley earned the week off and secured their place directly in the grand final after finishing on top of the ladder. North Ballarat, meanwhile, had to take the longer road, facing Lake Wendouree in a do-or-die preliminary final and producing a convincing win to keep their season alive.

That result has now set up a grand final meeting with Darley, who have already demonstrated why they finished on top of the ladder.

For Darley, the challenge now is to back up their dominant semi final performance and complete their season with the ultimate reward.

Their attacking end will again be a major focus, with Olivia Cawthray at GS and Akira McCormack at GA providing two key scoring options. McCormack's return to the line-up in the semi final gave Darley another dimension in attack, with their combination proving difficult for any defender to contain.

Through the midcourt, Lucy Taylor, Montana Holmes and Jaimee Smith will be critical to Darley's ability to move the ball cleanly and maintain pressure. At the defensive end, Anna Lawley and Matilda Elliot will face the enormous task of trying to restrict a North Ballarat attack that has been in outstanding form.

North Ballarat will enter the Grand Final full of confidence after their preliminary victory. Their attacking combination of Maddy Selmon and Poppy Douglass was particularly effective, with Selmon’s shooting accuracy above 90%

Selmon's shooting form will undoubtedly be one of the major talking points heading into the Grand Final. Darley will need to find a way to make possession difficult for North Ballarat and limit the opportunities reaching their star goal shooter.

Alongside Selmon and Douglass, Georgia Bodey provides an important link through WA, while Lilly Francis will be central to North Ballarat's ability to control the tempo through centre. Brydi Hutchinson and Milly Simpson will also have a significant role to play in the midcourt battle, while Maggie Smith provides the defensive presence at GK.

The defensive contest will be particularly intriguing. North Ballarat's defensive pressure was a major factor in their final, with Smith making an immediate impact and the defensive combination working hard to disrupt the opposition attack.

That pressure will now be tested against a Darley attack that showed just how damaging it can be when given clean ball and time to settle.

The Midcourt Battle

The battle through the centre third could prove decisive.

Darley's Lucy Taylor, Montana Holmes and Jaimee Smith will go head-to-head with Georgia Bodey, Lilly Francis and Brydi Hutchinson. Both midcourts will be looking to generate clean attacking ball while also applying enough pressure to force turnovers.

The team that can win possession and transition it into the attacking circle efficiently could gain a significant advantage.

The Shooting Battle

At either end, there is plenty of talent.

Darley's Olivia Cawthray and Akira McCormack will need to deal with the pressure created by North Ballarat's defensive unit, while North's Maddy Selmon and Poppy Douglass will face a Darley defence determined to make every possession count.

Selmon enters the grand final after producing one of the standout individual shooting performances of the finals, but Darley will be looking to ensure North Ballarat cannot simply rely on easy feeds into the circle.

What to Watch

• Maddy Selmon's shooting form
• The battle between the two midcourts and which side can control possession.
• Darley's attacking combination of Olivia Cawthray and Akira McCormack.
• North Ballarat's defensive pressure and whether they can disrupt Darley's attacking flow.
• How both teams use their bench options as the intensity and physical demands of the Grand Final increase.
• Shooting accuracy under pressure, particularly in the crucial final quarter.

The Grand Final Story

Darley have already shown during the finals that they can produce a sustained, high-pressure performance, while North Ballarat have demonstrated their ability to respond and keep their season alive when the stakes are at their highest.

The grand final presents a completely different challenge.

Darley enter the Grand Final with plenty of confidence after a strong finals campaign and the benefit of a week off.

Finishing on top of the ladder, they have shown throughout the season that they have the ability to control games and perform under pressure.

North Ballarat will also head into the decider full of confidence, having built strong momentum through their finals campaign.

Their attacking end has been in excellent form, while their defensive pressure and ability to create turnovers will be key strengths heading into the biggest game of the season.

With the season coming down to one game, every possession, turnover and missed opportunity will matter.

Darley v North Ballarat has all the ingredients of a Grand Final worth watching, with two sides bringing contrasting strengths and plenty of attacking talent to the biggest stage of the season.
