JOEL:A little stage before 3/4 time lol

INSIDER: Which quarter did you do the most damage?

JOEL:I think it was five (first quarter), four (second quarter), four (third quarter), four (final quarter), so pretty even spread

INSIDER: Which teammate, in particular, do you owe a beer for his unselfishness around goal?

JOEL:NOT Jake McQueen

INSIDER: Do you expect to be available come finals given your affiliation with Williamstown?

JOEL:Depends on games played at Williamstown - I think 11 is the maximum

INSIDER: Tell us in a nutshell about your coach Jake Bridges at East Point?

JOEL:Very good man, goes about in a different way - very team-oriented

INSIDER: Jake said your effort at the weekend was just reward for all of your hard work over the last few months - what have you been up to? 

JOEL:I train Mon, Tues, Thurs and weights Wednesdays so there's been a bit of work put in

INSIDER: How is everything going at Williamstown?

JOEL:Good. We're in the eight aiming for a top-four spot.

INSIDER: Why do you think some local clubs get more access to their VFL-affiliated players than others?

JOEL:It depends on club and coach. Also the player type / dynamic and his history in the VFL

INSIDER: In a freakish sense which player at the club can do things on-field that others can't? 

JOEL:I hate saying this...Jordy Johnston!

JOEL:Brad Whittacker

JORDY COTTER:In the latter part of the year sure, but the evenness of the comp says you have to focus every week. But always work hard at training.

JC:Bit of a licence but it’s defend first.

JC:Yeah, they’re all fine.

JC:O'Brien - the grunt / Payne - leadership and structure

KHY JESS: Gary Learmonth (Coach) is having a crack for me so we'll see

KJ: I guess I stick to my strengths (kicking). Handball numbers and improvement will come.

INSIDER: Tell us about your experienced midfield partner in crime, Lachie George, and what he's done for your footy?

KJ: Big influence, taught me a fair bit. I just feed off him!

KJ: I had #2 but ruined that jumper so I’ve copped #41 since.

INSIDER: Are you related to former Richmond champ of the 70s and 80s, Jim Jess?

KJ: Yes, Jim is my Pop (Granddad).

KJ: Athletic and strong 1v1.

KIM BESSELL:Plenty of relief to be honest, I was more nervous than usual before the game. Over the moon and proud of the achievement.

KB:Went and supported the juniors before a few drinks at the pub!

KYLE BORG:The interest from Port Melbourne is there but my opportunity has yet to come. #hurryup!

INSIDER: The 'Borg moment' kicking the sealer against Sunbury a few weeks ago must have been bittersweet for you in a tough week. How were the scenes in the rooms after the game?

KB:Very emotional. Meant so much to me and the footy club. Oe of the best wins I’ve ever been involved with.

INSIDER: On the team front - explain the improvement at Melton?

KB:New system under Troy Scoble exceeding expectation. More improvement to come.

INSIDER: What do the Kights and the Carters think of you sneaking down off a wing and kicking goals? Liam Carter made his thoughts clear marking your would've been goal on the goal line last week!

KB:They're not HUGE fans to be honest! They think I’m a bit of a scene stealer taking away an opportunity to flare their wears!

KB:Amazing, very grateful, learnt a lot!

INSIDER: You arrived at Darley in 2021 - who from the club was responsible for essentially finding you?

Matthew Brett:Travis Minns, pre covid. He maintained contact through 2020, built rapport and the rest is history.

INSIDER: What is your actual role at the club Matty?

MB:Assistant Coach - Backs

INSIDER: It was great news for Devils’ fans to hear you were sticking around after a winless 2021 - the club must be growing on you?

MB:Definitely, Darley has a terrific community feel about the place, country environment, similar to back home / playing for a town that's meaningful.

INSIDER: Head coach Dan Jordan is an interesting character - what have you learned from him in your role as 'line' coach?

MB:The importance of building connection / relationships with people.

INSIDER: You did your knee against Melton last year - tell us about that - the pain, the frustration, the rehab.

MB:The pain 7/10, the frustration was being unable to be an example with my own actions (on-field), the rehab requires some serious diligence/discipline to return on time.

INSIDER: You have East Point on the road this week, tough ask - how are the confidence levels? They ran over the top of you at Eastern Oval last year, they will be hard to beat again i'm sure.

MB:They're a quality side. Will be a good test for us – it will be more accurate gage after three rounds for where we're truly at.

INSIDER: Is Brett Bewley's preparation as full on as it's rumoured to be? Tell us about your footy relationship with Brett.

MB:"Preps" as good as anyone i've known, Brett certainly loves his footy. We have a solid footy relationship, sharing a common goal wanting ultimate success for the club. As for rumour, I've heard he even sleeps with a footy!

INSIDER: Favorite ground to play on outside of Darley Park?

MB: City Oval

INSIDER: Who is your toughest footy critic?

MB:Outside of myself, probably my Dad.

INSIDER: Which young Darley player has shown you to have the most upside?

MB:Mace Cousins and Bailey Young. Both terrific young men that work hard.

MITCH MCLEAN: Opportunity, afforded responsibility, coach belief.

MM: Spike in belief of the playing group, playing for one another, riding highs and lows together

MM: Positioning, Overhead marking, Attack on the footy

MM: Really good, awesome day. Enjoyed playing with similar age profile top end talent.

NED NASH:Maccas’ (Brendan McCartney’s) idea. Practice match theory, add a string to the bow. Was once a forward in juniors.

NN:Mal White - silky, Liam Deering - reliable, Daikin Morris - tough, Noah Cockerill - solid.

NN:CE Brown Reserve, Lake Wendouree

INSIDER: No Jamie Quick (ankle) recently and Stewart Crameri (hamstring) has been unsighted. What's the update on those two?

NN:Not sure, but I’m tipping Cramers to play before Quicky (medium term)

INSIDER: How do you think you're travelling compared to mid-season last year?

NN:On par, tough team to get into last year but we're more organised this year.

NN:I was thinking Mum, but on second thoughts definitely NAN!

NN:No, we were terrible - way off, no connection. That can happen in footy.
